Embodied Herbalism – Herbal Tastes course – ONLINE

Cat Green pouring tea from kettle with chopping board of veggies on bench making herbal remedies. Home herbalism. Kitchen herbalism. Staying well this winter with herbal remedies.

Our taste buds are a potent gateway to deeply understanding herbal medicine.

Herbal tastes give us patterns for how herbs might work in our body (based on what constituents are present) and what the best medicine-making technique will be for each herb.

In this deeply experiential course, you’ll build your own relationship with the herbs through direct experience with the 5 major tastes: pungent, bitter, sweet, salty and sour.

Understanding herbal tastes, you’ll be able to:

  1. know the general patterns of how these herbs work in our body
  2. know what chemical constituents are likely to be present and then we know which preparation methods best suit those constituents
  3. build a direct relationship with a plant and
  4. take ownership of your knowledge and understanding – you’re relying on your OWN experience, rather than just what someone’s said.

We’ll also have a chance to talk about why different herbal traditions have different tastes, how to understand complexity of tastes in herbs, and different ways to make remedies and why we’d choose one way over another – ie infused oils, vinegars, alcohol tinctures etc

Embodied Herbalism gives you a really grounded starting place so you feel confident to explore and better understand your herbal medicine.

And, in our screen-saturated world, where so much learning takes place with our head, this course will give you the nudge you need to get herbalism out of your head and into your hands and senses.

Dates and Details

The online Embodied Herbalism course will run for 4 weeks, starting Thursday 15 February

The live sessions will start at 11am QLD time, and go for 1.5 to 2 hours. You can definitely access the replay if you can’t make that time.

You’ll have one year to access these resources, so self-paced is a great option and you can download all the resources anytime during the year.

Herbal Tastes Sample Kit

If you’re joining me online and you don’t have heaps of herbs at home, you might want to grab the Herbal Tastes sample kit (just choose this at checkout).

It’ll have 2 herbs/ taste that we’ll talk about in the course. Given this is an experiential course, I’d highly recommend it, but it’s not necessary and you can absolutely use what you’ve got or source your own herbs – use contact form if you need help deciding.

With this foundational, embodied framework of herbal tastes to guide you, you’ll become a more confident, capable home herbal medicine-maker.
