Handcrafting Herbal Lotions: A Beginner’s workshop

Image of three natural handcrafted herbal lotions (or herbal creams). Three coloured herbal lotions - brown, yellow and green in brown glass jars). Herbal lotions-making workshop for beginners as part of the Herb Folk, monthly herbal medicine workshops on the Sunshine Coast and great Brisbane region.

If you’ve ever wanted to make your own herbal creams and lotions at home you’re in for an absolute treat. I’ve asked Kaja, from Herbae Thylacini to teach us how!

She’s an expert herbal cream-maker, specializing in sensitive skin and traditional craftsmanship. What she doesn’t know about herbs, oils, and emulsifiers isn’t worth knowing!

In this hands-on, deeply explorative Herb Folk workshop, she’ll  walk us step-by-step through the herbal lotion-making process. You’ll leave understanding:

  • What is a herbal lotion or cream?
  • what ingredients are in it, and how to choose which herbs or oils?
  • do you need preservatives and if so, which ones?
  • what is an emulsifier, and how do you choose the best one for your lotion?
  • what’s the shelf-life for herbal lotions and creams? How can I tell if they’ve gone off?

Kaja will have various creams and lotions to try  (so you can feel the difference) and she’ll demonstrate how to make it at home – with opportunities to pick her brain as we go.

We’re still finalising whether you’ll be able to make your own lotion in the workshop (we hope so) but I can promise it’ll be as hands-on and interactive as we can make it, as I firmly believe the best learning happens when you get your hands dirty (or in this case, really silky 😉). Either way, you’ll get to take home the most gorgeous handcrafted herbal lotion to use at home.

Whilst this workshop is aimed at beginners, even if you have experience making your own herbal lotions and creams at home, you’ll still get a lot out of this workshop! You’ll have a chance to have super nerdy convos with Kaja (although we won’t have time to go too deep down too many skincare rabbit holes)

Don’t miss out – snag your spot!

I rarely cap numbers for Herb Folk events, but this herbal lotions-making workshop will be capped so everyone can get up close and personal with the process.

Staying in Touch

If you book a ticket, I’m really reliable when it comes to event emails, but the fickle email gods aren’t always good at delivering them – so if you don’t hear from me, please reach out! I’m not gonna leave you hanging!

What is Herb Folk?

Herb Folk (click here) is our monthly (or seasonal) herbal medicine group on the Sunshine Coast (and Gympie/great Brisbane region for those who like to travel). We’re a laid-back, fun, plant-loving community and we gather to make seasonal herbal remedies, and learn about herbs and herbal medicine-making techniques.
